Just Go for it…
The blog’s been really light lately although not intentionally. Just been busy. Can’t really complain as I’ve been doing things that I consider things worth doing. Lots of people get stuck in the rut of doing things taht they don’t enjoy because they feel they are the right things to do. While not everything that I’ve done over the last three weeks has been profound, or life altering in most any ways; I’ve been relatively ok with doing them all. Strangely enough after that introduction I’m not going to talk about any of those projects here. That is however, where I’ve been the last couple weeks with no updates. While this is an update, unfortunately it’s not about some of the things I’d love to mention on here just yet…
Nikon D7000, 560ISO, Nikon 300mmF2.8DII with a Nikon TC20eIII attached totaling 600mm (900mm with the D7000’s APS-C sized sensor), Hand Held, 1/400th@F8)
Shot that off my pack porch about a week ago. Used my girlfriend Shannon’s D7000 so she could again see some of the things it was capable of. Granted, I had a 300mm Prime on the camera with a 2x extender that’s not normally available to her, but that’s ok because I shot that hand held off the back porch. Showed that with a little preparation, anything was possible. Speaking of possible, I’m very proud of Shannon as she is now a Circle City Derby Girl! She’s been going to all sorts of practices a week and she’s loving every minute of it. (Including the bruses, pad rot smell, and especially all the wonderful people she has now been introduced too). Unfortunately now that she has joined up, she had to inform the league that they need to deal with me on a regular basis too because I want to see her play; to which I was humbled and honored at their request for me to take photos as my volunteering duties.
(Nikon D700,1600ISO, Nikon 300mmF2.8DII with a TC20eIII Extender on it for a total of 600mm, 1/250th@F8. Single Dynalite Uni400JR to about 30′ behind camera right on a 25′ stand set to 1/3 stop below Full Power, Single Dynalite UNI400JR to camera left about 45′ back on a 25′ stand set to 1/3 stop below Full power. Both lights triggered by Pocket Wizard FlexTT5 Units which in tern were triggered by a Pocket Wizard Flex TT5 on the D700.)
Had a moment at the last bout I went to for them that made me remember why it was I wondered why people invited me places. For whatever reason I felt compelled to put the Lens combo to shoot the moon on my D700 and shoot a few Jams. Got that shot above from almost the length of the track away, so needless to say; I was shooting a little tight the next few jams. Think of those Jams I have all of two or three useable shots which to me made it worth it. May have to try it again in the future, as I’ve always been all about shooting really tight; this was just the mecca of such a thing. Even shot some basketball with the 600mm Combo the week prior, but unfortunately I’m pretty sure none of those turned out (except for maybe a shot of one of the benches…). Either way, I suppose the point here is to just go for it. People would much rather look at a very dynamic tight shot, than a very loose shot. More Soon…
